It started with a simple game…
Now the man who lay there like a god was her husband.
His father was ruthless, and she feared her husband would be just like him.
But she had no idea what awaited her inside his wagon.

Excerpt:
“A word of wisdom for you, Luca,” she said. “In marriage, patience will be your best friend. Patience grows love and understanding. Quick pleasure leaves anger and resentment.”

It took Luca a moment to understand what she meant. She spoke of their wedding night, of their time in bed together. He frowned at her, uncertain of what to say. Virgins were new territory to him. The only carnal pleasure he had received in the past was from the well worn bodies of prostitutes.

“I understand,” he said.

“Good,” Jaelle said.

In another part of the world, Annie sat in her room and stared at herself in the mirror. She could still hear her father’s words from when she was a child. He had called her an unwanted child because she had been orphaned and left on their doorstep. She was not quite noble, yet not lower-class, but nonetheless the daughter of a nobleman simply because of the man who had adopted her. If she had been left on the doorstep of a pauper, she would have been shipped off to the circus or hung.

Soon… she would be the wife of a man she had never met!

An American Dynasty

An American Dynasty is the story of one family’s rise from the extreme poverty of the Great Depression to a dynasty of wealth and politics.

They are a family filled with empathy for their fellow countrymen as Jack Gilbert struggles with the paradoxes of the Great Depression: “Why are people hungry when there is enough food for everyone? Why are so many people without shelter when we can provide shelter for everyone? Why is there such an abundance of ignorance when we have the ability to educate everyone?”

They are a family of lust: “…they realize they are naked in a business office on a Sunday morning. Mary epitomizes the moment by getting up from the sofa and dancing naked around the office. Jack is in hysterics.”

They are a family of extreme passion: “Is that how you see me, a suckling on my breast? Is that your vision of a woman’s role in your idyllic society? Well, I certainly don’t want any part of it.”

They are a family that knows death: “He sees one more German still alive…he raises his arm with the pistol in his hand and shoots him twice in the head.”

They are a family fearful for their country’s future: “He has one final thought before entering politics. Freedom is not lost, it is stolen, and the thief is absolute wealth.

Excerpt:
Joshette parts her legs and tells Jack to hurry. Jack lowers her onto the desk and pulls her gently to him. Afterward, they go to the Colonial Hotel for dinner and drinks, but are relatively silent.

“You don’t need to make excuses for my behavior, Jack. I wanted sex, and you were in a position to give me what I wanted.”

“But I felt more than animal gratification.” He smiles a naughty smile, then continues, “I think we’re going to have to do this again.”

“You are an attractive man, a man that every woman wants, but you are still a man.”

For the next two days Jack and Joshette discover passion like nothing either has experienced. Jack isn’t this close to his own wife.

Forced to leave his French lover following the war, Jack returns to California and forms the Gilbert Industries Corporation, firmly entrenched in war profiteering, and becomes a millionaire before the age of thirty. When his uncle is killed, he inherits the man’s wealth and purchases an extravagant house in the Hollywood Hills. As new wars begin, the Gilberts become even wealthier, and Jack’s idealist beliefs all but vanish. After all, it is some of his businesses that manufacture weapons for war. But when his son goes to war, he is torn. He knows the horrors of war, and thoughts of his French lover that he left behind long ago begin to haunt him.

GENERATIONS: Birth of an American Aristocracy

Generations: Birth of an American Aristocracy

An epic novel of wealth and fame, politics and adulterous romances, murder and intrigue, along with family secrets that each generation swears to take to the grave.
***
An idealist, Jack Gilbert travels to California where life’s events make him a witness to and participant in the intrigues and brutality of war. Involved in espionage, he becomes an adulterer, a secret he vows to take to his grave. Following the war, his life of love, politics, and growing wealth compromises his idealism, and as each new generation of Gilberts emerges, there is little realization that the family’s wealth has come at great expense to others. But greed, like a moving train, is hard to stop.

Excerpt:
Joshette unlocks the door and leads Jack inside. She shows him the files where the documents are kept and Jack quickly begins taking pictures. In a few minutes he is ready to leave, but Joshette hears noise outside of the office. “It’s the janitor. He will open the door, turn the light on, and begin to clean.”

She begins to undress and tells Jack to quickly remove his pants and jacket. She sits on the desk and parts her legs. In the ambient light, Jack sees a smile on Joshette’s face as she says, “Do you need some help, or can you perform under these conditions?”

Jack silently and quickly complies, as the door to the office slowly opens. When the janitor sees them, he immediately exits and closes the door.

Joshette asks, “Are you going to finish?”

Jack lowers her onto the desk and the passion is immediate. He puts his arm under her head and pulls her gently closer to him.

Afterward, they go to the Colonial Hotel for dinner and drinks, but are relatively silent. Jack breaks the silence, “What happened goes far beyond our duties…”

Joshette interrupts, “You don’t need to make an excuse for my behavior. We did what we had to do to get out of a situation. Afterward, I wanted sex.”

“These are strange times in North Africa.” He kisses her gently on the lips and walks to his car. Struggling with his adulterous conduct, he attempts to justify what is happening on the war.

Jack’s son David is born in 1950, on the day the Korean War begins, the first military action of the cold war, and as the war drags on, Jack becomes wealthier and wealthier. When it ends, some five million soldiers and civilians are dead, and Jack feels a degree of responsibility for the deaths. It is, after all, some of his businesses that manufacture weapons for war.

Years later, Jack’s son David departs for the second military action of the cold war – Viet Nam.

*****

The bush is thick, and David and the others slow down for fear of being ambushed. David’s buddy Freddy continues on and is quickly lost from view. After a few minutes David moves ahead alone to search for him. He moves silently, and sees movement in the bushes. He sees Freddy on his knees over a dead Viet Cong. He appears to be cutting his head off. David looks around, sees no one, then speaks just loud enough for Freddy to hear. Freddy stops what he is doing and motions for David to come over. Looking at the dead Viet Cong with half of his head cut off, David says, “What in the hell are you doing?”

Freddy has a surprised look on his face as he replies, “I’m killing the enemy and making an example of him to any other Viet Cong who comes into this village. When I remove his head, I’m going to put it on a pole as an example of what will happen to the next Viet Cong.”

David is stupefied at Freddy’s words. “What you are doing is a death sentence for the people of this village. When Charley sees that head on a pole he will think the villagers did it, and they will kill everyone in the village to set an example to everyone who opposes them.”

Freddy doesn’t respond.

David wonders if Freddy is a psychopathic killer or if he really believes the only solution to winning is to kill every one of the enemy. “You are always the first to go after Charley, but they never seem to survive once you get to them.”

Freddy smiles back. “Why would you want to capture scum like that? I don’t take prisoners, unless I’m told to.”

“But you seem to enjoy killing them.”

“I do enjoy killing them, and I hope this war never ends.”

Several days after they return from leave in Saigon, they are on a patrol and as usual, Freddy is in the front of the shooting. He is unseen, and right behind him is David. David sees the Viet Cong firing at Freddy and Freddy firing back. Freddy is shot and bleeding out from a wound that severed the main artery in his leg. David takes a towel and puts it over Freddy’s leg to apply pressure, but he is hesitant about applying enough pressure to stop the flow of blood. This is his chance to prevent Freddy from committing another atrocity.

Freddy can feel that no pressure is being applied. He looks up at David, smiles and says, “Welcome to the club.”

A Werewolf’s Wife

Erotic Historical Romance

Erotic Historical Romance

After Tanya’s father dies, Tanya must find a way to obtain money for her and her mother. Unfortunately, everyone in her town is hungry, and there is not enough charity to feed her family. Tanya is forced to enter a relationship with Sir William, a cruel but wealthy man. Years later, her mother becomes betrothed to another, and Tanya realizes that this is the chance she has been waiting for. The chance to be free. Unfortunately, she does not expect Sir William’s vow, a vow that if she will not be his, he will kill her. Tanya flees the town and travels to a distant village, where she finds a note in a bar asking for a new servant at a wealthy estate. Overjoyed, she heads to the estate, but halfway there she is bitten by a rabid wolf. Her leg is covered in blood and she is overcome with pain when a strange, attractive man comes to her rescue. It is the owner of the estate, Leon. As Leon houses Tanya at his estate and the young woman’s bond with him becomes more than friendship, Tanya comes to realize that he is more than a man. He is someone far more dangerous.

Excerpt:
Leon lay in his bed, fighting the urges which erupted in his being. He could picture Tanya in bed next to him in naught but a sheer white nightgown, her flowing hair draped around her like a veil. This was exactly why it was a bad idea to have a woman in his estate with him. Yes, he oftentimes felt the hand of devilish arousal at night, but it was only an empty dream. As he gripped the bed, he continued to imagine Tanya next to him. The fantasy became so intense he could swear he could smell her in the room with him. There was something erotic about the goddess, Tanya.

A Gypsy’s Bride

A Gypsy's Bride

Erotic Romance

When Sir Clay of York gambles with a gypsy named Luca, he doesn’t expect to lose his coins as well as his pride due to the gypsy’s cheating ways.  He doesn’t expect to lose his daughter, Rosie, in the mix either.  While he has no love for Rosie with her pale skin, white hair, and red eyes, he detests that he has been bested by the hated gypsies and he vows revenge.  He will give Luca his daughter, but he will find a way to get her back and get even with the gypsies at the same time.  The gypsy, Luca, needs a wife after his father stole his betrothed from him years earlier and so he tells the Englishman, “Bring your daughter to me one week from now.”  In the gypsy world, gypsies marry gypsies, and now Luca must face the consequences of his bet.  After having been imprisoned and beaten in her own home, Rosie is both thrilled and frightened when she hears that she is to be wed.  Though she knows nothing of this man, she never dreamed that she would ever be allowed to leave her father’s house.  When she asks about her wedding and the man who is to be her husband, Rosie’s father refuses to tell her anything.

Excerpt:
He’s a gypsy.  They were thieves, thieves who stole from hard working people and traveled around England in carriages.  Rosie had heard that gypsies were ruffians and oftentimes beat their wives and had many wicked children who were just like their parents.  And that was who she would marry.  Luca would probably beat her and lock her away.  Either that or he would push himself upon her and breed wicked, evil children.

As Luca approached the camp, he felt Rosie’s trembling.  His hand was rough and callused, like sandpaper.  What will these hands feel like touching my breasts, my stomach, or even my…  She met Luca’s eyes and they appeared to be smoldering.

“Shall we go to bed?” he asked, stroking her cheek with one of his rough hands.

Rosie nodded.

******

Rosie heard Luca climb into the back of the house wagon and head toward her.  He began to undo his shirt, and Rosie watched him with interest as he revealed tan, hard flesh below.  She smiled and he leaned down and kissed her gently.  His lips were probing and tender, yet she felt electricity fill her body at his warmth.  As Luca continued to kiss her, he reached downward and touched the sensitive area at her hip.  She moaned and squirmed at his touch, and he chuckled against her lips, filling her with electricity.  She reached down, fingering the top of his undergarments.  She was curious and yet she had never touched him.  Luca broke the kiss and gazed at her with a heated stare as her hand lingered.

“Is it okay if I?…” But she was too embarrassed to finish the sentence.

“Is it okay if you what?” Luca asked.

Rosie’s cheeks grew hot at the thought of what she wanted.  “Is it okay if I touch you?” she asked, knowing that this was the root of his carnal pleasure.

Riley

Riley

Historical Romance

Introduction:
A young woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets, desires, and dreams.  Romance and passion swirl around inside of her like light puffy clouds drifting lazily across a summer sky.  In her quest for a knight in shining armor, what becomes of a young woman who falls into the arms and the bed of a man who looks and acts like a knight but is in reality a joker?  For a young woman who is free spirited but a little naïve, mistaking a joker for a knight can be dangerous and perhaps lethal if she does not heed the warning signs along the way.

Excerpt:
Fort Riley was well known to anyone who had grown up in northeast Kansas.  The wild and untamed nature of the region was deeply rooted in the soil, as well as in the hearts of young women, and its very essence would cause the two elements to collide again and again for years to come.  Fort Riley was not a temptation reserved only for those women whose hand bore no band of gold, however.  It was not a well kept secret that married women whose husbands had been sent “over there” found comfort in the bed of a man who had remained to protect the home front.  The outcomes of war with its horrors and time spent apart were not the fault of either husband or wife.  It was what it was, and it would be repeated again and again.

******

Ellie imagined herself as one of the free love children of the era, with flowers in her hair and the freedom to have sex without commitment.  The birth control pill had just been invented and with its high levels of estrogen, the young women were erotic time bombs just waiting to explode.  Ellie would have hitchhiked to the West Coast and hooked up with one of the aspiring musicians of the time.  He would have taken her to his “pad”, a makeshift apartment in the back part of a house.  As the sun set over the city, he would have laid her down, and Ellie would have quickly become the seducer.  In the morning he would have begged her to stay, but Ellie would have kissed him sweetly and promised to return.  In the spirit of free love of the time, however, both would have known that once gone she would be gone forever.  Ellie and her lover would have understood each other.  It would have been “groovy.”

******

When the wounded from the war in Vietnam returned with their limbs blown off and their minds blown out, the United States would be changed forever.  The country’s involvement in the gruesome bloody swamps of Vietnam left an indelible and ugly mark on Fort Riley.  The gilded age with its lavish displays of showmanship and unwavering respect for the soldiers was over, and in its stead was a new feeling for, and a new perception of, those who now chose to serve in the armed forces.  The protests of a generation could not be ignored, and the draft was abolished.  Subsequently, the soldiers now stationed at Fort Riley were a more unsavory lot than the fine specimens who generations before them had left the family farm to fight what they knew to be a worthy fight.  Over the following decades, it was not uncommon for a wayward youth to be given the choice between prison and the army.  What was once looked upon as an honorable institution slowly but surely took on the form or at least the perception of a prison, and with it a mishmash of elements collided to create some type of hybrid soldier.

However, in the eyes of the young women of the region, Fort Riley remained as it always had been; a temptation that few could resist.  Without the threat of boyfriends or husbands being plucked by some form of lottery system to be thrust into harm’s path, the young women who were eager to experience life far removed from their small rural towns found the soldiers stationed at Fort Riley as attractive as did the generations of women before them.  Ellie was one such young woman, and this is her story.
