He wanted to hate her, but how could he?  He felt protective of the naïve young woman.

When Janie is sent to live among the Sioux, she is met by a proud native, as well as his sarcastic remarks and smirky grin.  She wants to hate him, but she needs him to survive on the reservation, where life is filled with hardship.  Beneath the hard exterior and demeaning words of the proud man lies a warrior with a heart of gold, but he will never allow the privileged young white woman to know the truth about him, or let down his guard in her presence, no matter how much she needs or wants him.  He has other intentions.

Excerpt:
“You want me to leave, don’t you?  You have done nothing but give me a hard time since I got here, with your paleface comments, your smirky grins, your blame, and your backward thinking that I can’t do anything.  You are a male chauvinist pig!”  Janie could see him clench and unclench his fists and she knew she had gotten to him.

He turned around, pulled her to him, and locked his legs around hers.  He placed his strong hands on her face and bent her head back.  “You have no idea what I am thinking.”

She stared at him, her face smooshed between his warm brown hands.  He towered over her and she felt as if she were shrinking by the second.  The blue eyes that stared up at him were kind with their sparkle and their naïve brilliance, and he wished he could build a protective shield around her and keep her for his own.

“Kevin?”

“What… what is it now, Janie?”

“My face is squished.”

He wrapped her long brown hair around one hand and gently kissed her parted lips.  He hadn’t meant for it to happen, but it had, and he didn’t want to stop.  He kissed her with passion, and in a way that was new to young Janie.  He couldn’t get enough of the woman whose skin was as white as snow.  When he felt the slender arms on his back, he held her closer.  When he finally found the strength to pry his lips from hers, he held her to his chest and kissed her neck.

Janie turned her head to breathe, and thought about how she had watched him sleeping earlier that day when she stopped at the door to his room.  He had worn absolutely nothing, with no blanket covering any part of him.  He was perfect… all of him.  His chest was broad, his stomach like a washboard, his legs as thick as tree trunks, and what lay between them was meant to be hers and no one else’s.  She had tiptoed quietly by, wishing she were not a virgin.

White Diamonds

He knew that white diamond was code for the kind of woman forbidden to a man like him, but that only fueled the fire burning deep within him. She was the one he wanted, and only he could give her what she needed. Determined to have her, he vows to lock her away from the world if that’s what it takes to keep her.

Excerpt:
Vicki felt uneasy with a man in her house and she wanted to ask him to leave, but she also wanted to know why he had come to her house at such an odd time of the night. “Why did you come into my house?”

“Curiosity, I suppose. I watched you move in and I know you live here alone.” His eyes seemed to become darker as he flashed his white teeth in a wide smile.

“What do you want from me?”

“Ah, the pretty white princess is just like all the rest, is she?”

“No, and I’m not a princess. I’m divorced and I have a low paying job.” Vicki bit her lip. She should never have admitted that she was divorced. Now he knew that she was truly alone.

“You don’t say? I see that you’ve discovered the dark secret of the neighborhood.” Vicki gave him a quizzical look. Wilson held out his hand. “Come on, I’ll show you.

Wilson’s house was filled with beautiful artwork and ancient relics. “Passed down through the generations,” he answered to her unasked question.

“You have nice things.”

“You sound surprised.”

“I didn’t mean it that way. Is this what you wanted to show me?”

“No.” He led her to the very back of the house and opened a door that Vicki assumed led to the basement. Instead, it opened to a room with thick cement walls.

Vicki spun around. “This is just…”

“Like the one in your house?”

Vicki nodded her head in disbelief.

Wilson gently touched her chin and startled her. “Hey, I didn’t mean to bring you down. It is what it is.”

Vicki looked up into big dark eyes as she fought back tears. She blinked several times and then she felt the strong arms wrap around her. Her eyes met the man’s waist and she slowly wrapped her slender arms around him. His skin was smooth and warm and Vicki didn’t want to let go. Her husband had never held her like this. “How do you do it?” Her words were mumbled, but Wilson had heard them.

“Do what?”

“Survive…like this.”

Wilson took a deep breath. “What choice do I have?”

Vicki shook her head against Wilson’s chest. He stroked her long blonde hair, running the silky strands through his fingers. Vicki slowly looked up again, and Wilson lowered his lips to hers. It was the first time a man had wanted her in a long time and it felt good, too good, and Vicki opened her mouth to receive him. She kissed him as she would a lover, pressing her body to him and standing on tiptoe to give him more. She could feel him grow hard against her and she wanted to feel him deep inside of her.

Wilson pulled back and looked into her eyes, questioning her. “What do you want from me, Vicki?”

“I want you,” she whispered.

Black Raven

Interracial Romance

Interracial Romance

When Vicki notices a small tear in the wallpaper of her old house, she discovers a hole in the actual wall. Tearing down the thin plaster, she finds a room of thick cement. Searching the internet for information about the houses in her neighborhood, she learns that years ago the area had been part of the Underground Railroad for runaway slaves. With a plausible explanation for the room that seems awkward in its placement, she runs her hands along the cold cement and the faded scribbled names. One appears to be Wilson but the last name is unclear. A voice from behind her booms, “Wilson Jones.” A stunned Vicki turns to see a tall, dark man with full lips and bulging muscles.

Excerpt:
“How did you get in?”

“Front door was open. You know, you really should be more careful. You never know when someone like me might take advantage of someone like you.”

Vicki took a step back. “What do you mean…someone like you?”

Wilson motioned toward the empty room. “A runaway slave.”

“You’re not a runaway slave. That was years ago.”

“Ah, yes, well, perhaps I should have said, “The great-grandson of a runaway slave.”

“Do you live around here?” Vicki whispered.

“Next door, in the abandoned house.”

“You mean you don’t own it?”

“You obviously didn’t do your homework when shopping for houses. Didn’t you wonder why the price of this monstrosity was so low?”

“Well, sure, but I just thought it was a good deal.”

“Oh, it is…it is a very good deal. The neighborhood is full of squatters such as myself.”

Vicki felt uneasy with this man in her house and she wanted to ask him to leave, but she also wanted to know why he had come to her house at such an odd time of the night. “Why did you come into my house?”

“Curiosity, I suppose. I watched you move in and I know you live here alone.” His eyes seemed to become darker as he flashed his white teeth in a wide smile.

“What do you want from me?”

“Ah, the pretty white princess is just like all of the rest, is she?”

***

Vicki was lifted easily into Wilson’s arms and he laid the petite woman down upon his bed. She felt safe and protected with this man whose skin was as dark as night. Vicki’s slender arms around him made Wilson feel like a man again, a feeling he thought he had been robbed of forever.

As they lay together, Vicki thought that Wilson was the perfect man. It was not until the light shone through the window the following morning that she realized what she had done. She had slept in the arms of a black man. That was taboo in her world, something so forbidden that women who were seen with men such as Wilson were often shunned in public places. Vicki smiled sweetly and told him that she needed to go home.

“See you around, Vicki.” Wilson turned on the shower and closed the bathroom door. With the water streaming down his face, he could almost ignore the tears that were mixed with it.

Hell’s Angel

Hell's Angel

Romantic Fiction

“Steal a little and they throw you in jail.  Steal a lot and they make you king.”

Buried beneath a mountain of student loan debt and with no means to pay it back, Malika reluctantly agrees to a year for year payback program in a remote and destitute part of the country.  Thinking that a life without the finer things will teach their daughter a lesson in financial responsibility, the parents of the carefree young woman never expect their plan to backfire.  Their plan not only backfires, but it erupts like a volcano when their dainty daughter commits a crime more heinous, in their eyes, than murder in the first degree.

Excerpt:
Malika noticed the determined look on Kevin’s face as well as the rifle in his hand.  She heard gunshots from outside again and she screamed.

“Malika, get your little white butt in there.”

She struggled to fight back the tears, but she did as she was told.  It seemed as though hours had passed before she heard the footsteps coming toward her and then she saw him standing in the doorway, the rifle in his hand, looking taller than he had before.

“It’s not safe for you here, Malika.”

“Where will I go?”

Kevin knew he shouldn’t do this, but it was the only way.  “My place.  Come on.  Pack your bags and hurry.”

******

When the alarm sounded at six sharp, Malika was sound asleep.  She didn’t hear the obnoxious ding of the wind-up clock, but Kevin heard it and he listened to the noisy thing for a solid ten minutes before storming into Malika’s room and shutting it off.  He purposely slapped the dresser with his hand.

“What is it?  Where are we?”

Malika’s chestnut brown hair was in her eyes and her white camisole top was giving Kevin quite the view.  She had kicked the covers off during the night and the dark place covered with the tiniest bikini bottoms that Kevin had ever seen was more than enticing.

Malika brushed the hair from her eyes and focused on the gorgeous body that had entered her room.  The man was naked except for a loin cloth of some sort that covered only the things that needed covering, and it didn’t do a very good job of it.  His legs were solid and if he turned just a little bit she could get a really good look at everything.

“When were you planning to turn this thing off?”

“I didn’t hear it.”  Malika had never been very coherent when she first woke up and Kevin’s delight in her lack of lucidity was not helping matters.

He walked away, and Malika nearly gasped at the firmness of his butt.  It barely moved when he walked and she wanted to touch it, squeeze it, and pull the man back into the room and into her bed.  The sexy man would be wild in bed and the kind of man that Malika needed.  She grabbed her bath items and yawned as she left her room.  She passed by the door to Kevin’s room and glanced quickly and then willed her feet to move.  He was lying on the bed, his legs apart with the loin cloth between them.  A slight smile was on his face, as if he were expecting Malika to look.
